Classes are free but donations are very welcome. Traditionally, students each donate 3000 colones for group classes and 10,000 colones for private sessions.

Yoga in Harmony with Horses  Retreat Develop your consciousness and create positive changes in your life.

Learn to achieve richer communication and trust with your horse through meditation, visualization, asanas and pranayama. The rhythmic poses and yoga breathing exercises help you learn how to breathe in rhythm with movement as well as enhance your awareness.

Enjoy Yoga and meditation sessions engulphed in the beauty of Cahuita National Park. Among the activities offered at Magellan Inn are snorkling in coral reefs,beach and jungle horse treks, and guided nature hikes. Find peace and serenity. We use the same skill sets when we enter, hold, and leave a yoga asana that we use when we interact with our equine companions. We enter an asana with calm determination, hold the pose with grace and quiet breath, and leave the pose with awareness and thankfulness.

The same is true when we ask our horses to perform up and down transitions. When we ask with calm firmness they respond willingly and happily. Horses are noble creatures capable of great physical feats and they generously share that with us if we are open to accepting their gifts. We need only quiet the "noise" in our minds and listen.

A yoga practice prepares us to find that quiet place within each of us and listen for our horses’ invitation to come play.

  • Holistic riding creates a deeper connection between body, breath, mind and soul.
  • Integrating Yoga into our riding and our time spent with horses enhances awareness, balance and flexibility.
  • Breathing in rhythm creates focus and relaxation.

Fernanda Beccaglia is a fellow yoga teacher and horse rider. She is a raw vegan and living foods chef as well as an energy healer and reiki master. Her eco-friendly yoga line and holistic practice guide and inspire others to live meaningful and complete lives.

The retreat includes:

  • Twice daily yoga sessions

Itinerary

  • Day 1: Arrive in Costa Rica, choice of hotel stay at Las Tias or Costa Verde

Kiran is a licensed massage therapist and a certified yoga teacher. She has worked in Costa Rica, Hawaii, and California. Her unique brand of Hawaiian-style yoga, Mana Yoga, connects Kiran’s traditional Ayurvedic training with her Lomilomi training and emphasizes a deep connection between our bodies and the earth. Kiran's natural connection with horses began at age seven.

The retreat includes:

  • Twice daily yoga and meditation sessions
  • Riding trek through both jungle and beach
  • Three night stay at Piscina Natural in Cahuita
  • Three night stat at Casa Zen, Playa Santa Teresa
  • Guided tour of cacao outdoor museum

What is Yoga Therapy?

As I say frequently in my classes, "Yoga is not about touching your toes."

Yoga is your personal journey to re-discover you. My approach to asana and pranayama practice is to offer adaptations and adjustments to each movement to allow students to enjoy and learn from each action. For example, for years I could not put any weight on my hands and wrists. My adaptation to the Downward Facing Dog and plank in Sun Salutations was to do the Dolphin and the Dolphin plank. Mountain pose can be done from a chair. Balance poses can be done with supports. Try an asana practice in the pool to help with balance and flexibility.

I want to share my yoga journey with those who may not easily find their niche in the modern yoga world of contortionists, brands, fads, and even competitions. I am 54 years old and I have rheumatoid arthritis. The arthritis is just a part of my yoga journey that has taught me many valuable lessons about perseverance, balance, stillness, calm determination, acceptance and most of all faith.

Yoga is universal and for everyone, regardless of any so-called physical, mental, or emotional limitations. The practice of yoga allows us to directly experience the divine in ourselves and all around us. When we become aware of the oneness of all life we begin our true human experience.
